New express train upsets traders – The Statesman

Businessmen in Raiganj of North Dinajpur district were allegedly upset after they heard that a new express train which would run between Radhikapur, a station near Indo -Bangladesh border of North Dinajpur and Delhi, the train would not stop in Raiganj, an important station of North Dinajpur district.
It was learnt that recently Railway authorities sent a fax message to the Station Superintendent of Raiganj Railway station in which they mentioned that this train will be 4019 up and 4020 down. Though the specific date for the inauguration of this train was not mentioned, the Railway officials of Raiganj Railway station expect this train to start from August 2008.
The general Secretary of West Dianjpur Chamber of Commerce, a trade body of both North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur districts Mr Jainarayan Somani said: “The businessmen of Raiganj will not benefit from this train if it does not stop at Raiganj . If the Railway officials do not declare the stoppage for this train in Raiganj Railway station we will organize a protest and even also intercept this train on the first day that it reaches Raiganj”.
One of the members of NF Railway Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee, Mr Tapan Chaudhury said: “We have already sent a letter to the general manager of NF Railway Mr Ashutosh Swami demanding immediate declaration of its stoppage in Raiganj. If the Railway authorities fail we will launch a ‘rail roko’ movement in Raiganj.
The station Superintendent of Raiganj Railway station Mr Manajitmoy Bhattacharjee said: “The stopage of 4019 up Radhikapur – Delhi Express was not mentioned in the message which we recently received from our higher officials. The message also revealed that the date of inauguration of the train will be declared soon.
