Directorate of health service authorities have decided to set up a 6 bedded Intensive Care Unit in the premises of Raiganj District hospital very soon.
This is what the DHS wrote to the North Dinajpur health officials today. It was reported that for the treatment of cardiac patients, North Dinajpur district health and family welfare committee had set up a special observation unit in the Raiganj district hospital five years ago.
But this SOU was shut down two years ago allegedly due to staff crunch. Since then patients, especially with cardiac problems were having a tough time. All West Dinajpur chamber of commerce, a trade body of both North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur districts, members of the confederation of state government employees, DYFI and Raiganj town congress committee had been demanding an ICU in Raiganj district hospital. Recently the union Information and broadcasting minister Mr Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi fell ill on his way from Malda to Raiganj. He was initially admitted to the Raiganj district hospital. In absence of an ICU, Mr Dasmunshi had to be shifted to Kolkata. This had intensified the demand of different organisations of Raiganj for an ICU at Raiganj district hospital. Taking heed of the demands, the members of North Dinajpur district health and family welfare committee submitted a report to directorate of health service in Kolkata asking for a separate ward for the treatment of cardiac patients at the Raiganj district hospital.
The CMOH of North Dinajpur Dr SS Sahoo said: “The DHS authorities confirmed over telephone that a six bedded ICU has been sanctioned for Raiganj district hospital.”
