Activists protest against administration – The Statesman

A number of activists in Cooch Behar turned up at Karnajora in Raiganj of North Dinajpur district during office hours and destroyed government sign boards including the boards of the office of district information and cultural officer, office of district controller of food & supply ,the office of the directorate of agriculture and the office of the district land and land reforms officer. In such sign boards the activists wiped out the name of Paschim Banga and covered the spot with black colour.
Upset with the inactiveness of both police and civil administration the members of North Dinajpur unit of West Bengal state co-ordination committee protested in front of the office of the District Magistrate, Mr Sukumar Bhattacharjee and demanded an immediate arrest of the officers.The secretary of North Dinajpur co-ordiantion Committee Mr Shambhu Chakraborty said,” They destroyed government sign boards infront of the police, yet the police failed to arrest them. The fact that the officials of the district had no such previous reports about their activities, is a matter of shame”.
When questioned, the District Magistrate of North Dinajpur, Mr Sukumar Bhattacharjee said, “Four activists have been arested .Police have been instructed to arrest other activists.”
