In an apparent suicide pact, a housewife and her boyfriend, a bachelor, ended their lives by consuming poison at Karandighi in North Dinajpur district today.
It was learnt that Ganesh Sinha (28), a resident of Panchpeer village in Karandighi, had a long-standing love affair with Gita Singha (32), a housewife of the same village. The two were reported missing since last night. The body of Gita Singha was found in a field near Salampur in Karandighi this morning. Ganesh was discovered lying in a semi-conscious state near Gita’s body. Police reached the spot and sent Ganesh to Raiganj district hospital where he died succumbing to the poison.
The North Dinajpur police superintendent, Mr Shankar Singha, said that prima facie, it seems to be a case of a planned suicide. The bodies of the dup were sent for autopsy. An probe has been initiated to find the reason behind the suicide bid.
